The characteristic velocities cx, cy, and cθ are calculated as 

    cx=cgcos⁡θ+U
    cy=cgsin⁡θ+V
    cθ=σsinh⁡2kh(sin⁡θ∂h∂x−cos⁡θ∂h∂y)+cos⁡θsin⁡θ∂U∂x−cos⁡2θ∂U∂y+sin⁡2θ∂V∂x−cos⁡θsin⁡θ∂V∂y
